When thinking through wardrobe essentials, most people would exclude yellow tights. They do not keep you warm, are not machine-washable, and clash with almost everything. However, this past weekend I decided I needed yellow tights while standing in the sock department of Target. This decision was made based on the following:
1. They were the same color as my favorite purse. 2. They would look marvelous with my red flats. 3. They were a reasonable price.
This third point is critical, as its nonexistence would eradicate the other two. So for five dollars I bought the tights and headed home to my closet to search for something to coordinate them with. I wore them for the first time this past Wednesday. Little did I know how much attention my little yellow tights would receive! Here are some of the comments I heard:
“Wow! I don’t know what woke me up, my coffee or those tights!”
“I like your yellow legs.”
“Look, Mommy! There’s a woman wearing yellow tights!”
“I like your dress.” “But have you seen her LEGS?!”
Apparently yellow tights are more of a novelty than I thought! By the end of the day I stopped wondering why people put on their sunglasses at the sight of me. I am still not certain if the general public admired or disliked my wardrobe choice, but I do know that I am fond of my cheery stockings, and I suppose that’s all that matters, at least when it comes to tights.
