The Gray Havens, a musical group made up of husband/wife duo David and Licia Radford, will be in concert at the church where I work (Grace Community Church in Hudsonville, MI) on Sunday, January 25, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve only known about this group for a couple months, but I’ve been impressed with their lyricism and musicality, and love the fact that their songs are narrative in nature, many of them based on the writings of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and John Piper. David Radford says, “Good, beautiful stories plunge the reader into a fictional world in such a way that when they come out again, they perceive the real world more clearly and with more joy than before. In much the same way, song lyrics – when married to the right melody – can penetrate the heart. Story plays such a huge part in our songs because powerful narratives have been so transforming for us personally.”
If you live in the West Michigan area, be sure to join us the night of the concert! The concert starts at 6pm (doors open at 5pm) on Sunday, January 25, and admission is FREE! Whether or not you can make it to the concert, be sure to get a taste of The Gray Havens’ sound on their website: http://www.thegrayhavensmusic.com/. You can listen to all six songs from their 2013 EP, “Where Eyes Don’t Go,” right on their homepage (just click on the white “Listen” arrow). Hope to see you at the concert!
